Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Tuesday 10th December 2013

Reading: Isaiah 9.6-7
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and for ever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.

Thought for Reflection: What are you passionate about? Whilst we may only do what is necessary for many things in life, we may go to extraordinary lengths for those things we are passionate about. People travel great distances week in and week out to follow their favourite football clubs, devote hours of their time to their hobbies, and spend large sums of money to listen to bands they enjoy. For those people who are important to us, we will give as much time as we can and invest much emotion and energy into our relationships.
Isaiah looks forward to the coming light, the child who will be king and restore the fortunes of his people. His reign will be eternal and successful, righteous and just. And what achieves this? God’s zeal for us! We are the ones for whom God will pour out his life and passion.
Prayer: Thank you for the love you have poured out on us! Help us to give you a good return through the lives we live.
Coming Up: Don’t forget it’s SHINE this Sunday from 4pm at the Community Centre – remember to invite your friends and neighbours to join us for this and our other activities this Advent.
