Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Monday 16th December 2013

Today: Please remember Ben in your prayers as he conducts Christmas Services at the church for Wormley Primary School’ Nursery and Reception.

Reading: Isaiah 11:1-3a
11 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
    from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him –
    the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
    the Spirit of counsel and of might,
    the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord –
3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

Thought for Reflection: How many times this year have you heard people complain that Christmas is just commercialised nonsense? Maybe you have thought it’s too much tinsel and rushing around? Stop for a moment – from an old stump that looks dead and gnarled comes a live vigorous shoot – there is a wonderful truth that transcends all the complaints. At the heart of the story is something alive and life changing – a living saviour, a real baby, a simple yet amazing entrance into our world of God who cares more than we can imagine!

Prayer: Lord, help me to see the living shoot and not just an old stump!
