Ezra 3:10-11 (18.12.17)

Ezra 3:10-11 NIV

[10] When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the Lord, as prescribed by David king of Israel. [11] With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.” And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

To mark an important building, it is common for a foundation stone to be laid and a celebratory ceremony held – a happy gathering to mark the event and recognise its importance. The Israelites recognising how important the Temple would be and thankful to God, gave him praise and glory. So, in Advent, Christians are reminded to acknowledge the importance of the coming of the Christ child, the Son of God, foundation stone of our faith and we too are encouraged to offer joyful praise and thanks to God.

Heavenly Father we lift an anthem of praise to you and let all the world hear with the sound of our praise.
