Revelation 5:1 & 8:1 (19.11.18)

Revelation 5:1 & 8:1 (NIVUK)
Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals…
When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

Revelation is an account of a vision that John had, as a member of the Early Church. They must have hoped after Jesus’ resurrection that God was taking charge and everything would get better, but it didn’t. They became persecuted, John was in exile on the isle of Patmos. No doubt they began to question whether or not God was truly in control. Sometimes we wonder the same thing when we’re faced by events in the world around us, maybe we even wonder if God actually has a plan. But in John’s vision, we see the Lord Almighty sitting on his heavenly throne with his plan in his right hand, a plan which when opened is met by silence as the insight and wonder of God’s will is discovered.

Think through the questions and concerns you face this week, pray for the confidence that comes from knowing God has a plan to work in and through them.
