Matthew 11:28-30 NIVUK
28 ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’
John and his people had been expecting a Messiah who would come in judgement, demanding righteousness in his followers and damning those who failed in this respect. They struggled to recognise Jesus as instead he came with a ministry of grace and restoration that sought faith not perfection (although as in the preceding verses show, if you reject him, you bring judgement on yourself).
Thank you that we don’t need to beat ourselves and each other up because we aren’t perfect. Help us to rest in your Son and grow in faith in you and your Spirit’s transforming power.
