Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Matthew 16:5-7 (28.05.19)

Matthew 16:5-7 NIV
When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. [6] “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” [7] They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”

Yeast is a tricky thing. You can barely see it, but when making bread this tidy ingredient if allowed to ‘infect’ the dough, can have a dramatic effect. The obsession of the Pharisees and Sadducees with rules and traditions had the effect of killing faith and relationships rather than bringing life and hope.

Father, help us to hold on to the life you have given us and keep clear of that which would inhibit it.
