Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Matthew 23:23-24 (31.07.19)

Matthew 23:23-24 NIV
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. [24] You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.

Matt, my predecessor at Wormley, once offered me a very helpful piece of advice (I just need to keep it!) He advised me to ensure that I keep my main thing my main thing – life can become so full of good things to do and pressing things to do that it is easy to lose sight of what is most important. Here Jesus outlines our main thing – justice, mercy and faithfulness. Let’s try and keep our focus on playing our part on putting things right, showing grace and being consistent and selfless in our relationships.

Father, thank you for the ways you have shown all these to us.
