Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Matthew 23:37-39 (02.08.19)

Matthew 23:37-39 NIV
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. [38] Look, your house is left to you desolate. [39] For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”

A mother hen will protect its chicks by putting herself between them and the danger that faces them, risking her own life on their behalf. So Jesus offers his body to rescue us from that which threatens us, his life for ours, if we are willing to accept the cover of his wings.

Jesus, we join our voices with those of Palm Sunday, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’
