Revelation 15:3-4 (03.07.20)

Revelation 15.3-4
[3] (They) sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb:
‘Great and marvellous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways, King of the nations.
[4] Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.’

We tend to think of the Old Testament and the New Testament as being separate. But here the redeemed of earth are singing one song; it is at the same time the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb. God’s revelation of himself came in stages, but there is only one way of salvation. It is the same for Israel of old as for the world today. As Paul tells the Romans, believing Gentiles have been grafted into God’s olive tree. God’s marvellous deeds which are celebrated in this song are his outpouring of unmerited favour on undeserving sinners. To make them fit for his presence always required an atoning sacrifice on the one hand and repentant hearts on the other. There is only one way of salvation. Moses introduced it, Jesus fulfilled it.

What have you got to add to the song of God’s People today as you respond to God’s salvation?
