1 Kings 19:11-13 (23.07.20)

1 Kings 19:11-13 NIV
[11] The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. [12] After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. [13] When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Yesterday we remembered God speaking to Pharoah in terrible and dramatic ways but here is Elijah, going through a crisis – he had lost his courage, was depressed and alone and in the middle of a massive storm – wind, earthquake and fire – way more than he could cope with! But God was not in the wind or earthquake or fire – for Elijah, in his delicate and broken state, there came a gentle whisper – and he knew the voice of God! Isn’t that beautiful? Sometimes when we are surrounded by storms of uncertainty or fear, we need to hear the gentle loving whisper of our Father, who knows exactly what we are going through! Listen for him today!

I have heard so many songs
Listened to a thousand tongues
But there is one that sounds above them all
The Father’s song, the Father’s love
You sung it over me
And for eternity it’s written on my heart

(Matt Redman)
