Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Psalm 62:5-8 (11.11.20)

Psalm 62:5-8 NIV
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honour depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

Refugees are rarely out of the headlines, over recent years we have seen so many seeking to flee from war and disaster, and the political wrangling and fallout as to who and where should be their refuge and receive and support them. As Advent approaches, soon our minds will turn to the most famous refugee, Jesus himself, as we remember their fleeing from Herod’s murderous wrath. Today’s passage tells us that no matter what trouble we face, we have a secure refuge in God himself, he will rescue and protect us.

As we celebrate your salvation Father, we pray for all those around the world fleeing from disaster and conflict, for their protection and security. May we learn to be welcoming to those in need, no matter who they are or where they’re from.
