Bible Notes

Wednesday 14th August

Bible Reading: Hebrews 10:23 ‘Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.’

Thought for Reflection: In my wallet is a ten pound note. I can take this and spend it in any shop in the country without fear of it being rejected in exchange for items up to that value. It is, however, only a piece of paper, in and of itself it is worthless. The thing that gives it value is the promise printed on it saying, ‘I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of ten pounds’. Once upon a time our notes could be taken to the Bank of England and exchanged for that value of gold. The paper has value because we know that the Bank has always kept its word. If we trust the Bank, how much more should we trust the promises made to us by God who has always proved himself to be faithful!

Prayer: Help us Lord to live our lives based on your promises, knowing that you are a faithful God who will never let us down.
