Bible Reading: Mt. 5:5
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Thought for Reflection:
‘Leave me alone or I’ll get my big brother on you!’
No one likes a bully in the playground pushing those smaller than themselves around, but outside the playground it seems to be the way the accepted way the world works. The person who shouts the loudest, is most forceful or most manipulative tends to get their way. This, however, is to look at things from a short term perspective and many sayings warn us against this such as ‘it ain’t over until the fat lady sings’ and ‘don’t count your chickens until the eggs hatch.’ You see, the bullies haven’t read the rulebook and don’t know how the game works. The game isn’t over yet and although they might have made a good start, the winner is only declared at the end of the game. Like the younger sibling in the playground, the meek have an ally who will before the game is over tip the scales dramatically in their favour, moving the last to first and the first to last. It turns out that the meek will rule in the new Kingdom with Christ!
Prayer:
Today, let me not be distracted by how others play the game of life, but to follow your ways, knowing that you favour the humble, those who put others first and don’t demand to be centre-stage. Give me the courage to be different, give me the courage to be like Jesus.
