Reading: Jonah 2:1
[1] 2 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.[2] He said:
“In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry……..
“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’ ” And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. (Jonah 2:8-10 NIV)
Thought for Reflection:
This is a pretty extraordinary prayer from inside a fish!!! Jonah had discovered something wonderful – that no matter where he was or what he was doing God cared about him and would hear his cry for help! The end of the story is that a city full of people were saved and came to know God and Jonah continued his rather grumpy relationship with him.
It might be a bit easier to listen to God and obey before the fish course……….
Prayer:
Lord, that you hear us when we are in trouble is a wonderful thing – help us to hear you and to live in a way that shows what you are like.
