Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Thursday 31st October 2013

Reading: Matthew 6:12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.’

Thought for Reflection: The chain, cogs and gears on my old bike were getting worn and tired; ideally they needed replacing. Until that time, plenty of WD40 was needed to keep them moving properly and not rusting together or simply getting stuck. Looking towards the future Kingdom makes us realize the gap between here and there. Our brokenness affects every aspect of our lives, causing friction and trouble. Until that day when all is made new – including us – there is need for this pragmatic prayer. Forgiveness is the lubrication that allows this world to go on working until it is made new; we all need to forgive and be forgiven. Frequently. If you are going to practice only one virtue, perhaps this is it.

Prayer: Merciful Lord, help us to forgive and to be forgiven.
