Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Friday 1st November 2013

Reading: Matthew 6:13 ‘And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

Thought for Reflection: Everyday is an opportunity for us to serve God where we are, to bring into being God’s kingdom in our daily lives – this is our frontline work for God. Because of this it is good to pray this prayer daily; it keeps our focus on this task and reminds us that God provides and guides us in this effort. One day it will no longer be needed. One day God will restore this world to the paradise it was meant to be. His Kingdom will be on earth – his ways will be followed, he will be known, and we will finally learn how to live well with each other. Until then, another reason to keep praying this prayer is that it reminds us to keep pressing on towards that goal, and to not get distracted from it, to be tempted away from serving God in all that we do and are.

Prayer: Creator and Restorer, give us such as vision of your Kingdom in all its fullness that as we strive for it and look forward to it we aren’t distracted from playing our part in our daily lives. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
