Reading: Daniel 2:3-5,10 NIV
(The King called the wise men of Babylon). [3] he said to them, “I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means. ” [4] Then the astrologers answered the king, “May the king live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will interpret it.” [5] The king replied to the astrologers, “This is what I have firmly decided: If you do not tell me what my dream was and interpret it, I will have you cut into pieces and your houses turned into piles of rubble…[10] The astrologers answered the king, “There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer.

Thought for Reflection: Just in case you thought Babylon was actually quite a nice place to live! The King is not a very reasonable man and all powerful – if the astrologers’ faith is a sham then it may have bad consequences! Are there things that “no one on earth” can solve today? Watch out for Daniel!!

Prayer: Lord, you hear us when we pray because you have made us righteous by the death of Jesus (The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous. (Proverbs 15:29 NIV)) Give us a faith that works today!
