Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Wednesday 11th December 2013

Reading: Isaiah 7:10-15
10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, 11 ‘Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.’
12 But Ahaz said, ‘I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.’
13 Then Isaiah said, ‘Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. 15 He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right

Thought for Reflection: In the Old Testament God promised his people that he was on their side and that they could trust him. To back up his promise he offered them a sign, the birth of an unidentified child whom he call Immanuel ‘God with us’. In the New Testament this sign is extended to all people with the birth of another special child, Jesus, literally God with us.

Prayer: Are there areas of your life that you are struggling to entrust to God? Look to Jesus and ask him to help you to allow his Spirit to guide and shape you.

Coming Up: Tonight we’re decorating the church from 8pm if you’d like to join us. Thanks Kevin for getting our Christmas Tree again – and also thank you to Mandy and family for organising our Advent Wreath!
