Psalm 109:1-5 (21.09.17)

Psalm 109:1-5 NIVUK

My God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, [2] for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues. [3] With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. [4] In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. [5] They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.

The Psalms are brutally honest, no side for glib pastel coloured spirituality here! Sometimes it does seem as if God has vanished or is ignoring us. Sometimes life as a Christian is not fun but is just hard work. Sometimes the everything can seem to be against us. Rather than pretend otherwise the Palmist acknowledges this and tells it how it is, demanding that God speak. In doing so he gives us permission to also be honest and open in our prayers. Ultimately this will bring us closer to God and help us mature and become authentic.

Take a moment to be honest about life with God, existing the good and bad and bringing it to him as worship.
