Ezekiel 18:30-32
30 ‘Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offences; then sin will not be your downfall. 31 Rid yourselves of all the offences you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel? 32 For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
Judgement gets a bad press. I can understand why, no one wants to be punished or told they are a failure. Who likes having a finger pointed at them! But judgement in the Bible is something else altogether. God does not judge in order to get his own back or to inflict suffering on us. No, God’s judgement is all about putting things right, bringing people from harmful or destructive lifestyles to lives that are good and full and productive. He doesn’t want us to die, but to live!
Spirit, reveal the things in me that are destructive and help me to turn things around that my life might be the best it can be!
