Psalm 2:10-12
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Within this warning to the surrounding nations is a picture of worship. In worship two things come together, the awe and respect that comes from recognising that our Lord is God Almighty, King of kings, Lord of lords, ruler of heaven and earth, and a kiss, an expression of love, not born out of fear, but the realisation that our Lord is compassionate and gracious and has given himself for us.
Jesus, in love and wonder, I place my life in your hands and proclaim you my king.
