44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”
When lives hitherto considered outside the church were transformed and Gentiles became ardent followers of Christ, established members of the church were amazed that the Holy spirit should have moved so powerfully among those new Gentile followers of Jesus. Peter pointed out the self-evident truth: they had repented, believed, were baptised and now having come through the cleansing waters of baptism the Spirit was transforming their lives, just as it continues to work in the lives of all who commit to Jesus.
Lord bring me back to that moment of baptism and renewal of my spirit so that I might know and feel your presence every hour of this day.
