Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Acts 28:23-24 (19.07.18)

Acts 28:23-24 NIV
23 They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus. 24 Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.

When Paul spoke to the Jewish leaders in Rome, he turned to the Old Testament – which is what we now call the Law and the Prophets – to describe who he was and his significance. Sometimes as Christians, we have a tendency to ignore this part of the Bible, but to do so is to miss out on so much as Jesus is the culmination of the story of the Old Testament, he is the one which it points towards, he is it’s fulfilment, and without understanding it, you won’t really understand him, his character, his purpose and why we need him.

Father, we often find it difficult today to make sense of the older part of the Bible, it comes from a world so far away from ours, but it is part of our story and more importantly part of Jesus’. Help us by your Spirit to grow in appreciation of it and what it has to say to us today.
