Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Luke 9:18-20 (24.08.18)

Luke 9:18-20
18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?” 19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.” 20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

And now we are at the heart of the gospel. In the words of the hymn. “What kind of man is this? Jesus wanted to know what people were saying about Him; wanted to test how his ministry was being viewed and how his closest followers saw him. From their replies as far as the disciples knew, Jesus was just another, albeit extraordinary, itinerant preacher and prophet. But in an instant of insight and grace Peter saw Jesus for who he really was – the Messiah. Son of God. What is our understanding of Jesus at this moment and how do we see Him?

Lord deepen my faith today. Help me to see you as you really are, to respond to your call on my life and to live a life honouring to You.
