James 5:13-14 (NIVUK)
13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you ill? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
Are you ill? Invite the church leaders to come and pray for you (seriously, we’d love to).
Reading this section piece by piece like this, I can hear James asking, ‘Do you get it yet?’
‘Get what?’
‘Make prayer your first port of call for every area of your life – are you troubled? Pray. Are you happy? Pray. Are you sick? Pray. Are you anxious? Pray. Are you uncertain? Pray. Are you content? Do I need to go on?…’
Father, teach me to live a prayer orientated life.
