Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Revelation 8:4 (22.11.18)

Revelation 8:4 (NIVUK)
4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand.

The other day I was praying with someone outside after a meeting. We were in full view of the public walking past at the end of the road and others leaving the meeting we had just been in. This always feels a little strange, and I have to wonder what anyone seeing me talking into thin air with my eyes shut would have made of it if they did not realise what we were doing. But of course what they would not have seen is what happens to these words. When we pray, our words do not just vanish into thin air, no, they are taken directly to God as described ‘poetically’ here. What a privilege we have! Let us not take it for granted but use it.

Father, sometimes people moan about our politicians being disconnected from the public they serve, and yet you through hearing our prayers remain directly connected to us. Thank you!
