Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Matthew 9:14-17 (27.03.19)

Matthew 9:14-17 NIVUK
14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, ‘How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?’
15 Jesus answered, ‘How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 ‘No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out, and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.’

My DIY tends to be a patch it up and hide away the broken bits under polyfiller and paint approach. The trouble with that is it only really fixes things for a little while before they break down again. It’s a good job that Jesus didn’t take that approach with us. He didn’t come simply to patch up our lives but came to make us new, to give us a new relationship with God, a new start, to restore us to what we were always meant to be, to make us a new creation.

Thank you Jesus for the new life that faith in you brings!
