Matthew 13:44-46 (09.05.19)

Matthew 13:44-46 NIV
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. [45] “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. [46] When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

I remember being asked once what item I would rescue if my house caught on fire, if I could only grab one thing on the way out and everyone was safe. The answer was my guitar, obviously. This was followed by another question, would I be willing to give that up for Jesus. But these parables are not really about what we would give up for Jesus, but instead make the point that God’s Kingdom is worth so much more than anything we can imagine, it is the most precious thing. This makes it all the more wonderful that Jesus gave his life so that we wouldn’t have to give up everything for it, rather he gives it to us freely.

What a gift, thank you Jesus!
