In a chapter full amazing miracles (feeding the 5000 & walking on water), we could be forgiven for seeing Jesus as an all-powerful superhero, immune, invulnerable …but not one of us. But this short passage paints a different picture, with Jesus withdrawing after hearing news of John’s death. His distress and desire to be alone is very human, something we can all relate to.
Jesus, thank you that out of love you entered our lives, becoming fully one of us and standing with us in our joys and sorrows.
