1 Corinthians 13:6-7 NIV
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. [7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
‘Love does not delight in evil’
Do I delight in evil? At first the answer seems straight forward, of course not! I don’t go around rejoicing over doing wicked things, or deliberately promoting hurtful things. But stopping and reflecting on this a bit further, I became aware of the temptation of looking out for wrong-doing and pointing the finger at those doing it, the enjoyment of taking the moral high-ground. Paul’s description is more than an absence of doing evil, it is a decision to actively focus on good instead, not pointing the finger but rejoicing in truth, protecting, trusting, hoping and persevering. This is a much more wholesome and positive response.
Thank you Father that you do not condemn, but instead persevere with us, offering your grace and protection.
