Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Matthew 26:1-5 (30.09.19)

Matthew 26:1-5 NIV
When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, [2] “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.” [3] Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, [4] and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. [5] “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”

Passover, an annual celebration remembering God liberating the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt. It took ten plagues to persuade Pharaoh to release them, the last the death of the firstborn brought about by the angel of death. The Hebrew firstborn were passed-over (passover, get it?!) by the angel as the blood of a sacrificed lamb marked their doorposts. Jesus is our Passover sacrifice, it is through his self-sacrifice that we are liberated from slavery to our brokenness.

Thank you Jesus for giving yourself so that we might be set free.
