Matthew 26:26-29 NIV
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” [27] Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. [28] This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. [29] I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Sometimes everything seems hopeless. We live in a cynical age of disputes and disasters, when no one is trusted and everything can seem tired and grey. But, into this hopeless world come Jesus’ words of promise, one day I will drink this drink with you again in my Father’s kingdom. One day we will raise a glass in celebration as all will be made new and all put right! So hold on, drink the bread and wine, look back to what Jesus’ sacrifice has and will achieve, and live with hope.
Jesus, you gave your life out of hope for us.
May we live hopeful lives for you, trusting in what has been and what will be.
