Isaiah 7:14 NIV
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
God spoke through Isaiah into the political issues and upheavals of his day, but in this he also spoke into Israel’s future. In Isaiah’s time there would be a child who was the sign of God’s presence with them, but later rather than simply pointing to God’s presence, the Messiah would be God’s Presence with his people, ‘God with you’ (that’s what Immanuel means).
Jesus, thank you that you are God with us, and continue to be so today through your Spirit!
