2 Samuel 22:1-7 NIV
[1] David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. [2] He said:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; [3] my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my saviour—from violent people you save me. [4] “I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and have been saved from my enemies. [5] The waves of death swirled about me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. [6] The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. [7] “In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.
David had a pretty scary life full of uncertainty and danger – he started with Lions and Bears, went through Giants and Kings and even faced attacks from his family – and yet he was one of the greatest Kings of Israel ever (Second only to the King of Kings himself!) Through it all he sang to the God who delivered, saved and rescued him. Today we face uncertainties all around us but let us sing to the one who delivers – the one who is our fortress and Saviour. Worship and you will find your burden lifted and your fears assuaged!
O My Soul, arise and bless your maker,
For He is your Master and your Friend.
Slow to wrath but rich in tender mercy;
Worship the Saviour, Jesus.
King of grace, His love is overwhelming;
Bread of Life, He’s all I’ll ever need,
For His blood has purchased me forever:
Bought at the cross of Jesus.
