Revelation 1:14-17 (25.05.20)

Revelation 1.14-17
[14] The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. [15] His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. [16] In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. [17] When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.

Throughout the book of Revelation, John sees amazing things, as the door into heaven is opened to his view (Rev.4.1). But the first thing he sees is not angels, or the throne, or the saints waiting for justice; no, he first sees Jesus. And the sight is astonishing. During three years spent with Jesus of Nazareth on earth, John saw a lovely man. But now when he sees him in heaven, the sight is utterly amazing, altogether more glorious. He could only describe him in picture-language, and we likewise struggle to imagine the glorified Jesus. No wonder he fell at his feet as though dead!

Like the shining sun in its noonday strength,
We now see the glory of Your wondrous face.
Once that face was marred, but now You’re glorified,
And Your words like a two-edged sword have mighty power
(David Fellingham)

Through the rest of this week we are going to see some more glimpses of heaven in this remarkable book.
