Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Revelation 14:3 (02.07.20)

Revelation 14.3
[3] And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.

In 4.8 we heard heaven’s permanent residents singing “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come.” And we might say ‘Amen’ to that. But there are songs which only saved sinners can sing; no-one else can learn them. Angels cannot sing words of personal gratitude to a saving God, words like
“I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom;
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer;
But this I know with all my heart –
His wounds have paid my ransom.”

You and I can sing words like that, because it is our ransom which was purchased on the cross. Jesus still has the nail-marks! But this is described here as a ‘new song’ – does that imply that there are aspects of salvation which we haven’t yet entered into? The Queen of Sheba said of Solomon’s glory ‘Not even half was told me.’ Will we say similar things when we finally come face to face with the Lamb who bore our sins?

Take some time to ‘boast’ in prayer about what Jesus has done for you!

Ps. Don’t forget to pray for and promote the Alpha Course…
