Acts 12:14-16 NIV
When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!” [15] “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.” [16] But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.
I’ve been a Christian for thirty years. Surely by now I should know God well? There are certainly times when I get complacent and settle into thinking I know who is is and what he wants and will do – what a fool I am! This story warns us against such complacency – they must have felt they had a good relationship with God, after all, some of them had known Jesus, and yet even they are caught out and surprised when he answered their prayers so quickly and dramatically
Lord, unsettle us where we’ve grown lazy or complacent, leave us eager and open to learn, see and know more.
Ps. Don’t forget to pray for and promote the Alpha Course…
