Luke 1:11-13 NIV
11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.
Yesterday I typed, ‘and sometimes he surprises us…’ Surprises don’t come much bigger than this (well, they do as Mary was to find out!) After a lifetime of praying, Zechariah and Elizabeth’s prayer for a child was answered. I wonder if this was a prayer they had prayed together, or did God simply see the yearnings of their hearts? Sometimes when God doesn’t seem to be listening, he is, it’s just a case of his waiting for the right time. Be patient if God has laid a desire on your heart and keep praying.
