Luke 1:14-15 NIV
14 He [John the Baptist] will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born.
John was special.
Before Jesus, the Holy Spirit was only given to particular people at particular times for particular tasks. John, however, was filled with the Spirit even before he was born; something special was happening! His unusual lifestyle, including avoiding wine, was to set him apart, to show that his life was dedicated to God. What for? We’ll think about that tomorrow. Today I want to highlight something amazing, we too are all given the Spirit through Christ – that makes us all special, just like John.
Thank you Father for the amazing gift of your Spirit! Help us to be alert to his work in us.
