Luke 1:16-17 NIV
16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
So what was John’s task, the task he was given the Spirit for? To prepare people for the Lord, for Jesus. This was about more than simply announcing that he was coming, it was about encouraging them to live lives that were conducive to receiving him, live that come from having soft hearts, compassionate towards others and learning from people of active faith. i wonder what this might look like in Broxbourne? How can we help nurture positive receptive lives as well as speak about Christ?
Spirit, help us in the task of preparing people for Jesus this Advent.
