Isaiah 11:6
6 The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
What a wonderful image! The prophesy of Isaiah is that the child who was to come would be all powerful and possess all the authority of heaven. The predator wolf and leopard and lion would lay down with their natural prey and they in turn would be led by a little child. This is an image of a child who would defy all logic and the outworking of whose life would appear both impossible and contradictory. Jesus, Messiah, God, would upend everything taken before his coming as the natural order. He would redeem all of humanity, overcome death and destruction and show a more perfect way to God.
Lord we thank you for the mystery of Christmas. We stand in awe of the power and majesty of the Son of God and we praise you that we too who follow Him can be called children of heaven.
