Greetings from Mortimer West End, and thank you for your prayers for my preach ‘there’. Apologies for the missing end to yesterday’s service! Really not sure how that happened…

Reflections on God’s Mother Love
After celebrating Mothering Sunday yesterday, this week our reflections come from scriptures that portray God’s ‘mother love’.

Isaiah 49:14-16
14 But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me,
the Lord has forgotten me.”
15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
I will not forget you!
16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.

God foresee’s that his people may feel forgotten or abandoned by him in Exile. His response reveals the strong emotions that fuel his relationship with us. Just as a mother would never forget the child they gave birth to and nurtured, so too it is for him and them, in fact even more so! I can’t help but here Jesus’ cross in the last lines, when the nails in his hands demonstrated the extent of his love for us.

Thank you for our mothers and all who played a part in nurturing us, and above all, thank you for your ‘mother love’ that brought us into life and into new life.
