Matthew 6:9-10
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
This is a call to pray God’s kingdom into being. Jesus’ instruction is simple and yet far-reaching. Take the headlines or the local news. Prayerfully imagine what those situations would look like if God were in charge, and then pray that what you imagine might come about. Think of the communities you mix in. How would they be different if God were in charge, pray that those changes might occur. Where are you right now? What effect would God being fully in charge there have? Pray for that too. This sort of prayer needs priming to work at its best, feeding our imagination through reading the Bible, spending time with God, and worshipping with his people.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, here in my home, my workplace, my commute, amongst my friends, family and neighbours, in my borough, in my country, around the world, as it is in heaven…
