1 Samuel 16:15-18
15 Saul’s attendants said to him, “See, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you. 16 Let our lord command his servants here to search for someone who can play the lyre. He will play when the evil spirit from God comes on you, and you will feel better.” 17 So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me.” 18 One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.”
How would you like to be described by others?
I would love to be known as someone about whom people said, he knows how to play the guitar well. It would be nice to have people describe me as brave. In my line of work, it would be fantastic to be described as speaking well too. Fine looking? Well, we can all dream can’t we! But out of all descriptions, the one I’d treasure most is the last ‘the Lord is with him’. And here’s the thing, I can play the guitar ok. I have moments of bravery. There are times when I know I can tell a story and have a whole school listening. Good looks? Not so much… but God with me? He is! His Spirit is in me, his Son gave himself for me, and he goes before me and behind me …and the same is true of you!
Lord, help us to live in response to your presence so that others might see you in us, experience your love through us, and discover you for themselves.
