Bible Notes

1 Samuel 16:19-23 (18.06.21)

1 Samuel 16:19-23
19 Then Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.” 20 So Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them with his son David to Saul.
21 David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armour-bearers. 22 Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Allow David to remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”
23 Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.

As is so often the case in the Bible we see God at work behind the scenes getting the person he wants in the place he wants them to do the work that he desires them to do. For now David’s work is simple, to sooth Saul when he is feeling troubled or anguished. Later of course, his task will be King of Israel, this is just a stepping stone towards that end. Makes me wonder though, if you are God’s person, in the place he has chosen at this time, amongst the people you are with, why has he put you there? How does he want you to serve him now?

Father, I am the only person who is in my exact situation and this time with the skills, personality and opportunities that I have. What is it that you have placed me here to do for you at this time?
