Yesterday we finished our Summer series exploring the Fruit of the Spirit. This week we reflect on Galatians 5 where they are found.
Galatians 5:13-14
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”
The Rolling Stones famously sang, ‘I’m free to do what I want any old time’, but is that sense of indulging ourselves a anytime actually freedom? Paul thinks otherwise. Before the freedom Christ brings us, we cannot escape being self-centred, but Jesus brings us the freedom in the Spirit to put others first, to learn humble love of others. Exercising such love is the true expression of freedom.
Help me to exercise your freedom in my dealings with others today.
