Galatians 5:19-21 (09.09.21)

Galatians 5:19-21
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Oh dear, it looks like I’m in trouble, I’m sure that I’ve fallen foul of a few of these, and I suspect you have too! Whilst most of us may not have been caught out by some of the more dramatic ones, I imagine there are very few who have not been envious at some point, or had a little too much to drink, or had inappropriate thoughts about someone else. Does this mean we’re all condemned? Surely not! That is the whole point of Christ’s faithful life – he represented us and did what we could not on our behalf. He was ‘perfect’ and his perfection covers us. Does that mean we can live how we want though, and not worry about living good lives? Again, surely not, because that belongs to the life we left behind, life of fallen humanity rather than the kingdom of God. Let’s seek with the help of the Spirit to live a life fitting for the kingdom we belong to.

Thank you Jesus that you lived for me – help me Spirit to live for him!
