Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

1 John 1:1-2 (21.09.21)

1 John 1:1-2
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

I love this description of Jesus as ‘the life’. On one level it refers to the life that exuded from him, he comes across as being so alive, living life to the full. One picture book I saw shows flowers bursting into bloom wherever he went. This may be a tad fanciful, but gets across the idea. Through the way he treated people, the things he said to them and of course his miracles, life overflowed from him into the lives of others wherever he went. This shouldn’t be surprising, should it. He came from the Father and brought with him the energy of God. He is the one through whom all life came into being. He comes from eternity, and through his life and paradoxical death and resurrection, offers us eternal life.

Bring to Jesus those areas of your life that need revitalising.
In your mercy, Jesus, appear to us again today.
