Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

1 John 3:16-18 (24.11.21)

1 John 3:16-18
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

The love we are called to is a practical love, the love that sees a need and does something about it. It is this love that drives our activities such as Toddlers, Drop-In, the Foodbank, the Night Shelter and so on. It is this love that leads to our members praying for each other, checking in with each other to make sure they’re okay, or giving someone going through hard times a hot meal or an envelop of money. It is this love that leads to us caring for work colleagues, family and neighbours.

Spirit, help us to enter the coming day with our eyes open to see the needs of those around us, and feet and hands ready to take action, and mouths ready to offer comfort, encouragement and the good news of Jesus, God’s Son.
