Luke 2:39-40
39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.
Faith is a journey, it is not a decision, or a sudden shift from being not part of God’s family to being part of God’s family, it is more than that. We do not find that becoming a Christian makes us complete, there is always more to learn and discover about God, ways in which we can more fully express his image in our lives, things that he calls us to be involved in. We sense something of this in today’s passage, it hints a Jesus maturing, growing up and developing wisdom – he too had to go on the journey of faith. I find this encouraging, especially in those moments when I find myself lacking.
Father, what part of the journey are you taking me on right now? Help me to focus on that and not be too concerned about pathways that are for another day.
